Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk to you about a problem that always amazes me every time I’m asked these kinds of questions

I am often told: But what is the use of a waiter? Isn’t it too complicated to use? How much does it cost, is it not too expensive? We don’t have any computer scientists, how do we do that?

So, let me be very clear, not having a server for your company is simply risking the loss of your company. Let me explain myself

First of all, what is a computer server?

A computer server is a computer (a little bit special) that is designed to store, share and manage the data of a company’s users. This data can be documents, databases but can also host applications (for example accounting software).

Why is it so risky?

The risk is related to the partial or complete loss of a company’s files. 67% of companies have already been hacked into their data

From two or three PC, Mac or tablet users, the need to share files is quickly felt.

Several data sharing solutions:

The USB key or removable disk

To be absolutely prohibited, simply because it is restrictive, the risk of error is great and inappropriate as soon as it is necessary to exchange often. Moreover, if, in addition, the group’s computers do not have a backup themselves, then we lose everything in the event of a failure.

The solution of a Cloud is more interesting, because in this case, the files are actually available for all authorized users.

There are 3 major offenders:

You should know this, but the company’s files are stored “somewhere! ». Certainly, it may not be very important, but generally your documents leave Europe.

On the other hand, “Data storage” is often confused with “Data backup”. Most of the time, no backup plan is considered because we rely too much on the cloud, and when it comes to restoring a large amount of files, for example, when a collaborator makes a mistake, or a virus attack, nothing is planned and here again, we can lose everything.

As the number of employees increases, cross-synchronization of files between users via the cloud is constant and can collapse Internet bandwidth. It quickly becomes unbearable.

The installation of a server within the company.

A locally installed server allows you to set up a fail-safe backup strategy. That is the most important point. Not only is data always available to authorized employees, even outside the office, but above all, there is no longer any fear of Ransomware virus attacks or accidental deletions.

Synchronization problems do not arise in the case of a local server.

So, which server for your company?

There are two types of servers (I simplify as much as I can)

NAS servers

Ideal for very small and medium-sized businesses up to 30 employees

Low cost, low IT administration

Large storage capacity

Easy to implement data backup plan.

Total safety because it is extremely reliable.

Servers under Windows Server

More powerful than a NAS server in terms of data processing, the choice is made if the number of employees is large or if one must host one or more business applications on the server, such as an accounting application or an application that can only be installed on Windows (EBP, Sage…).

No user limits.

More sustained IT administration (a few hours per week)

Here too, security is total and backup plans ensure data protection.

So how much does it cost now?

A NAS server costs as little as a few hundred euros – Be careful with the choice of brand, which is essential, personally I have my preferences. The price is related to the storage capacity but also to the power of the server.

A Windows server is certainly more expensive, but the power is there. We think of HP or Dell. A major advantage of a Windows server is the ability to set up virtual computers (virtualization) that add flexibility and services to users.

So why a corporate server?

Simply to share and protect your data
